What is Mapping Hirst Wood?

Mapping Hirst Wood is a creative project I started in 2010 to develop awareness of the wonderful woodland environment of Hirst Wood, near Saltaire West Yorkshire. I will be running a series of creative activities in the woods that anyone can come along and join in. Events will include hands-on craft activities, walking, mapping, games and ecology activities.

This blog is a way to share the results of the Mapping Hirst Wood events with photos and a few words. It will also become a virtual noticeboard for up-coming events and things of interest to all those who love Hirst Wood.

Pictures from today's event

Thank you to everyone who came along to take part in Mapping Hirst Wood. We had a wonderful time this afternoon with perfect weather as well. Today we made mono-print memory maps, luggage label trails and a giant map of Hirst Wood. Below are some pictures of what we did...

The First Event - this Saturday!

Saturday 24th July 2010
from 12 noon
Hirst Wood, nr. Shipley

On Saturday 24th July I will be running the first 'Mapping Hirst Wood' event. The event will take place in Hirst Wood, near Shipley, West Yorkshire. I will be running creative activities aimed at all ages to encourage playful creative curiosity in the woodland environment.

Please come along, say hello and see what we are doing. Bring the kids, bring Grandma, bring the dog, wear your wellies!

Parking is available at the Hirst Wood car park. Look for signs from all the main entrances to the woods. The event will take place regardless of the weather, unless rain is torrential.

The activities are being run by me on an entirely voluntary basis and are not affiliated to any groups or official organisations. It is hoped that if this event is successful I will run further activities in the future.

See you there!
